Saudi: People selling flowers have been warned against using banknotes in decorating their bouquets.
The Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority (SAMA) directed the Council of Chambers of Commerce to ban the practice.
The monetary agency warned that such an act is punishable by the law, being tantamount to forging notes.
Under the Saudi law, anyone convicted of defacing, damaging or cleaning banknotes with chemicals or reducing their size or weight could be jailed three to five years and/or fined SR3,000 to SR10,000.
The authority issued the warning after noticing that many people are seeking to replace their damaged banknotes.
