Jeddah: Mobile phone subscribers will be required to register their fingerprints to obtain new SIM cards.
According to the Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC), country’s security agencies would strictly enforce the new regulation.
However, to pay the bill, add more talktime, fingerprints will not be required.
The new law is related only to identification of subscribers, including visitors, Gulf citizens and Haj and Umrah pilgrims, a CITC source was quoted as saying.
The CITC decision was announced last year, but implementation was delayed because some mobile service operators in the Kingdom required time to obtain fingerprint registration devices.
