AL Ahli scored an emphatic 104-76 victory over Al Ettihad last night in the sixth week action of the Zain Bahrain Basketball League at the Zain Arena in Um Al Hassam.
In the other matches last night, Al Najma beat Samaheej 99-76 and Bahrain Club got the better of Nuwaidrat.
It was Al Ahli’s fifth victory from six matches and with this win they joined overnight leaders Muharraq at the top of the table with 11 points each.
Al Ettihad stay 10th with seven points with their fifth loss from six matches.
Al Ahli were dominant for most of the time last night except in the third quarter during which Al Ettihad put up some fierce resistance to narrow the lead.
But that joy was short-lived as Al Ahli regained the initiative in the fourth quarter, crossed the three figure mark in style before wrapping up the match by 28 points.
Al Ahli won the first quarter 21-17 and the second 28-10. El Ettihad seized the third 30-24 while Al Ahli were in cruise mode in the fourth winning it 31-19.
Hesham Sarhan was the top scorer for the winners with 21 points while Mile Illic and Maitham Jameel lend him good support contributing 18 points each.
Ali Helal (20, including four three pointers) led Al Ettihad with a good all round performance while Ammar Mohammed Shabaan (19) and Ali Ghadeer (11) were the other main scorers.
Al Najma were also equally dominant in their victory over Samaheej, winning all the four quarters - 27-22, 23-11, 23-18 and 26-25.
With this victory Al Najma leaped over Sitra (8 points) into sixth place with nine points while Samaheej stay 11th with seven points.
Fadalallah Abbas (24) and Hussain Mohammed (21) led the way for Al Najma while Haminn Quantance (15), Ali Jaber (15) and Hasan Jaber (13) also got into double figures.
Antwan Wilkerson (28) was the hero in Samaheej’s loss. Hussain Busafwan (16) and Ahmed Fateel (10) were the other main contributors.
In the last match of the day, Nuwaidrat retained their best for the last to pip Bahrain Club 71-68 in the closest contest of the day.
Nuwaidrat trailed at the end of the first three quarters, but were irresistible in the fourth as they scored twice (30-15) more than their opponents to clinch the contest.
Bahrain Club won the first quarter 16-15, the second 20-14 and the third 17-12. But in the fourth they were thoroughly outplayed and that made all the difference.
With this victory, Nuwaidrat jumped over Bahrain Club in the standings with nine points compared to the latter’s eight.
