New Delhi: The 'world's oldest mother' from India and her husband went home with their babies on Sunday after the doctors put an end to all the speculations around their health.
Many were concerned about the health of the new parents from Andhra following reports in the media that the couple has been placed in intensive care.
Erramatti Mangayamma, 74, was said to have suffered a stroke after going into labour and Sitarama Raja Rao, 82, was reported to have a heart attack after the twins were born.
However, doctors denied the reports and said the mother had been kept in the ICU to avoid infection post-surgery and Sitarama had a lung infection.
Doctors have confirmed that the babies are also doing well and were kept in the neonatal ICU to avoid unnecessary exposure.
The couple had been childless for 57 years of their marriage and were ecstatic to welcome their children after the IVF proved successful on September 5 at a hospital in Andhra Pradesh's Guntur.
Erramatti was admitted to hospital in January where her condition was 'constantly monitored' before the twins were delivered by cesarean this month.
After witnessing the joyous moment, addressing the concerns about what if something happened to him or his wife Sitarama said- 'whatever should happen will happen'
'It's all in the hands of God.'
The couple's niece has told media that they have an extended family of 15-20 people and everyone is willing to take care of the babies.
