Abu Dhabi: DIB Foundation, the social, humanitarian, charitable and non-profitable arm of the Dubai Islamic Bank, announced that it has offered AED353 million in humanitarian and charitable assistance in 2015 of which AED248 million in zakat funds distributed to local charity organisations and societies.
Abdul Razzaq Al Abdullah, CEO of DIB Foundation, said that 388 needy and poor Emirati and expatriate families received cash assistance of about AED5 million. He added that the Foundation donated AED1.56 million to 194 needy families to help them pay school fees and tuitions, AED1.1mn to 116 families to pay housing rent and AED217,000 to 11 families to bear treatment expenses.
He said that AED189 million of the bank's zakat funds were distributed to charities in 2015. Founded in 2007, the DIB Foundation aims to create more funds that help needy families to become independent rather than rely on charities.
Today, this initiative is well on its way to achieving its generous and pious objective of providing the needy with at least the most rudimentary resources. In addition to providing help on its own, the Foundation also co-ordinates with other charity organisations operating in the country to assist them in carrying out their humanitarian activities in the best possible manner.
