Riyadh: It is estimated that a Saudi woman spends an average of SR15,000 annually on buying various luxurious cosmetic products, including branded lotions for hair, body and skin care and perfumes.
Saudi imports of cosmetic products have doubled as compared to expected quantities for import this year. This is currently at SR2.3 billion since January 2015, reported Arabic daily Al-Eqtisadiah.
Statistics released by the General Customs Directorate show that Saudi Arabia imported 44.6 million kilos of cosmetics since the beginning of the year, up from 44.4 million kilos last year (2014).
King Abdulaziz University Economy professor Dr. Farooq Al-Khateeb said that the overall value of Saudi imports of cosmetic products have soared by more than SR1.88 billion, which contradicts expected figures which were released by Government departments.
