UAE's national airline Etihad Airways has promoted Remco Althuis, a sales industry veteran to the position of Vice President - Europe.
Althuis joined Etihad Airways in 2012 as its general manager in China. He oversaw the airline’s expansion in China and most recently Hong Kong.
Althuis brings more than 20 years’ sales and marketing experience, gained from his years at Etihad Airways, KLM and Air France-KLM. During this time he worked in a number of different sales and marketing roles in Europe and Asia.
He holds an MBA from the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University as well as a degree from Leiden University. A native Dutch speaker, Althuis also speaks English, German, French and Mandarin.
In his new role, Althuis will assume commercial responsibility for the entire European region, which includes Etihad’s 14 key markets such as the UK, Ireland, France and Germany, and will be expanded to include Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.
Daniel Barranger, the senior VP (Global Sales) said: "Remco has played a key role in the expansion of Etihad Airways in Greater China during the last three years and has a wealth of experience and expertise overseeing regional sales activities both in Asia and Europe. Etihad’s European flight network and operations have grown considerably in recent years and Remco’s experience and expertise will support this growth further.”

Etihad Airways began operations in 2003, and in 2014 carried 14.8 million passengers. From its Abu Dhabi base, Etihad flies to or has announced plans to serve 116 passenger and cargo destinations in the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia and the Americas.
The airline has a fleet of 120 Airbus and Boeing aircraft, with 200 aircraft on firm order, including 66 Boeing 787s, 25 Boeing 777Xs, 62 Airbus A350s and five Airbus A380s.-TradeArabia News Service
