Bahrain: University students in Bahrain could soon obtain dual degrees from British institutions as part of a new plan underway.
Applied Science University (ASU) Bahrain president Professor Ghassan Aouad told the GDN that the ASU had agreed with London South Bank University and Cardiff Metropolitan University
to set up programmes in Bahrain.
These programmes would include an exchange of professors and students but based at ASU.
“With London South Bank University, we will set up a college of engineering for civil, construction, architectural design, mechanical and electrical.
“With Cardiff, we will have two programmes – one in management and business studies and the other in banking and finance.
“Part of the programme could possibly be a year abroad or include internships in the UK, but our programme would be delivered in Bahrain and validated by the two UK institutions.
Prof Aouad said he felt it was an important opportunity for Bahrain to become “an education hub” in the region.
“There is a big market for higher education in the UK.”
He said the university was waiting for approval from the Higher Education Council.
“Once we get the nod, we can start the programme in the next academic year.”
