Abu Dhabi: A decommissioned Boeing 747 passenger plane is on its way to Bahrain to become the star attraction of the recently announced eco-friendly underwater theme park.
However, the wingless plane became the centre of confusion online after it was spotted in Fujairah.
After the 70m-long plane was filmed being hauled by large trucks along the Fujairah Corniche, rumours started circulating on social media that the plane has made an emergency landing.
The Fujairah Police soon sprung into action and debunked the reports of an emergency landing on the corniche.
“The plane was actually an 'out of service' structure of a jet, which was being transported from Fujairah International Airport to the seaport”, police said last night.
The fuselage will be shipped to Bahrain in the coming days, where it will become the centrepiece of the underwater theme park along with a traditional Bahraini pearl merchant’s house and artificial coral reefs.
Covering an area of 100,000sqm, the exceptional dive experience includes several structures.
The sculptures are all fabricated from eco-friendly materials, all submerged to provide a safe haven for coral reef growth and a habitat for marine life.
