Abdulla Ahmed Nass and Sons and Nass Corporation director Hemant Joshi has won the prestigious 2018 World Memory Championship senior award.
He received the title during his debut on the world memory stage at the recently concluded global event in Austria.
Memory athletes from all age groups contested the annual event held in Austria under the auspices of the International Association of Memory.
The three-day event tested memorising large chunks of data in time slots of five, 15 and 60 minutes.
Mr Joshi’s memorisation statistics at the event were as follows: 990 binary digits (zero and one) in the same sequence in 30 minutes; 680 random numbers in the same sequence in 60 minutes; four decks of shuffled cards in one go; 60 random words in the same sequence in 15 minutes; 29 random names and faces in 15 minutes; 67 random images in 15 minutes; 81 random integers in five minutes; and 21 random historic dates in five minutes.
“I had registered for the event with trepidation, this being my first experience at the world stage,” said Mr Joshi on the occasion.
“Preparation for the competition was an incredible experience, although many a time, an excruciating one.
“On the one hand this involved rigorous and long hours of practice and fighting self-doubts and self-judgements on the other.
“The most terrifying part of the competition, however, was its scoring as it’s a 50 per cent penalty for one mistake and zero marks for more than one in each of the 10 events – thankfully all that is behind me now.”
In October this year, Mr Joshi won 11 medals (three gold, five silver and three bronze) at the Indian National Championship event.
