Cairo: Work on the King Salman Causway, linking Saudi Arabian and Egypt, will start before 2020, Elbalad reported.
The causeway will link Ras Humaid in the northern Saudi region of Tabuk to the Red Sea resort of Sharm El-Sheikh and will pass through Tiran Island at the entrance of the Gulf of Aqaba.
The construction of the vital seven-kilometre artery will take from five to seven years to become operational. The overall cost of the project will range from $4 billion to $5 billion.
The overall volume of trade activity is estimated to reach $200bn annually once the causeway becomes fully operational.
