Muscat - A passenger who traveled from Muscat to India was caught at Indira Gandhi International Airport with 2,813 grams of gold valued at OMR45,000.
The man who was traveling from Muscat on September 1st admitted to smuggling gold through the Mumbai and Ahmedabad airports in India.
In July 2018, gold worth OMR54,000 was seized by customs officials from four people who were allegedly trying to smuggle it into the country through Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi.
The customs officers searched the luggage of another passenger on his arrival from Dubai and seized 20 gold bars weighing 2.3kg.
In a separate case, three men were caught on their arrival from Muscat. A personal search and an inspection of their baggage resulted in the recovery of seven gold bars weighing 1.01 kilograms. The three accused were arrested.
In August 2017, 17 gold biscuits weighing around 2 kilograms were seized by Indian customs officials. Two passengers who had arrived from Muscat at Trivandrum airport were then arrested.
