Muscat – An Omani camp was opened in Dhaka, Bangladesh, for stranded Rohingya refugees.
Plenipotentiary Minister, Head of the Omani Embassy Mission in Dhaka Ta’aib bin Salem Al Alawi inaugurated the camp in the presence of a number of officials.
A batch of 107 houses, out of 1,000, have so far been completed as part of the programme of charitable assistance sponsored by the Omani Charitable Organisation and with the support of the Sultanate’s government.
The Omani official met with Mohammed Abul Kalam, Head of Refugees, Relief, and Deportation Committee in Bangladeshi government and Kevin Allen, Head of operations of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Cox’s Bazar who praised the Sultanate’s efforts to rescue the Rohingya refugee families from the risk of landslides and heavy rains, particularly in those areas.
He toured the camp where he met with the beneficiary families and announced that Oman would present Eid sacrifice to the refugees on the occasion of Eid Al Adha.
