Dubai: The sale of certain antibiotics brands have been suspended in the UAE by the health authorities.
Megamox Powder and Amoclan Powder products were pulled from shelves and all pharmacies were instructed to return them to their suppliers.
The ban comes after the discovery of high levels of the active ingredient Amoxicillin.
Amoxicillin is used for bacterial infections, sinusitis, tonsillitis, and other conditions, with a list of possible side-effects that include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, cholestatic jaundice and anemia.
Lab tests on those brands of antibiotics found that the levels of Amoxicillin is over the permissible range.
