KSA – The circumambulation area (mataf) surrounding the Kaaba in Mecca Grand Mosque will be reopened to worshipers on Tuesday (March 27) after completing the restoration of the Zamzam well.
The Mecca province is coordinating preparations with the Ministry of Finance and the Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques to reopen the mataf to all worshipers including visitors of the Grand Mosque, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
The Saudi authorities restricted entry to the “mataf” to Umrah pilgrims to circumambulate the Kaaba, ever since work on restoring Zamzam well started last October.
More than 250 engineers, technicians and labourers, supported by 11 cranes, worked round the clock to build five Zamzam water transits inside the Grand Mosque complex as part of a project to allow worshipers access to the historic well.
The renovation project also involves upgrading the system for storing, pumping and distributing the holy water while ensuring cleanliness and safety.
