DEFENDING champions Manama routed Sitra 79-50 last night during the 20th week of action in the Zain Bahrain Basketball League
Also claiming a big win yesterday were Muharraq, who were firing on all cylinders in a 109-69 victory over Isa Town.
Both games were played at Zain Basketball Arena in Um Al Hassam.
Manama came out firing and they quickly took a commanding 25-12 lead at the end of the first quarter. They stretched their advantage to 43-19 at the half after holding Sitra to just seven points in the entire second quarter.
Manama cruised the rest of the way en route to claiming their league-leading 17th win.
Mohammed Hussain led Manama’s scorers with 14 points off the bench. Hassan Nowrooz and Ahmed Najaf each contributed 10 points apiece, while American professional Wayne Chism had four points and 12 rebounds.
Mohammed Abdulla paced Sitra with 18 points while US import Steven Toyloy had 12 points and 13 rebound in the losing cause.
Manama’s 17th win put them in a tie for first place on the league standings with 35 points while Sitra suffered their 13th loss in 18 tries and they are now on 23 points.
In yesterday’s other game, Muharraq were in control from the very tip.
They were up 49-34 at the break and they never looked back.
Court general Ahmed Hassan put in an all-around effort of 25 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. He led six players in double figures.
Ahmed Salman had 16 off the bench while Bader Abdulla Malabes and Mohammed Juma’a each finished with 12, and Jehad Ahmed and Ali Abbas each scored 11.
Mansoor Jaber scored 30 to pace all Isa Town scorers. Hassan Ramadhan contributed 11 as their only other player in double figures.
Muharraq improved to a 15-5 win-loss record and are now on 35 points, tied with Manama at the top. Isa Town dropped their 16th contest in 18 assignments.
League action continues tonight with another two games on the cards. At 6pm, Al Ahli battle Al Ettihad followed at 7.45pm by Al Hidd taking on Riffa.
