Second division team Isa Town held Riffa to a 0-0 draw while Malkiya defeated Busaiteen 1-0 in their first leg, round of 16 matches of the King's Cup football tournament last night.
In the match, which was played at Khalifa Sports City Stadium in Isa Town, Riffa, who were favourites to win against second division team Isa Town, failed to beat their opponents’ defence and were held to a frustrating goalless draw.
In the other match, played at Bahrain National Stadium in Isa Town, Malkiya scored a second half goal to beat Busaiteen 1-0.
The goal scored in the 48th minute came through Waleed Abdulrahman. The match saw two penalty kicks awarded to both teams – Malkiya’s Syrian player Esra Amer missed the first one in the 53rd minute while Busaiteen’s Mohammed Sanad failed to convert the kick in the 70th minute.
All the four teams will play their second leg matches from next Sunday to November 4 to decide the winners who will qualify for the quarter-finals.
