Manama won the Bapco Super Cup football title after defeating Malkiya 4-2 through shoot-out at Khalifa Sports City Stadium in Isa Town last night.
The score was 1-1 at the end of regular time.
This was Manama’s second football title ever, having won the King Cup competition last season, and last night they defeated another first-time Super Cup finalists.
The first half of the match ended goalless with both teams deprived of scoring chances due to their defensive tactics.
In the second half, Malkiya found a number of chances to score, the closest being in the 60th minute when Manama’s goalkeeper Ashraf Waheed pulled off a great save to deny Malkiya’s Al Sayed Ali who hit a powerful free kick.
However, Waheed got injured from this save and Manama coach Mohammed Al Shamlan had to replace him with the substitute goalkeeper.
While Malkiya were in the attack mode, it was Manama who scored the opener in the 74th minute. A corner kick found Manama’s defender Sayed Mohammed Adnan who headed into the net to lead his team 1-0.
A few seconds before the final whistle, Malkiya equalised through Syrian striker Esra Amer and the match ended 1-1 at full time.
In the penalty shoot-out, Manama’s goals were scored by Mahmood Abdulrahman, Ali Haram, Luis Gostafu and Bruno Matos. For Malkiya, Sayed Hashim Adnan and Isa Al Barri scored while Gigi and Hashim Sayed Isa missed the net.
Bahrain Football Association President Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa presented the Bapco Super Cup title and gold medals to Manama team members and silver medals to Malkiya.
