Al Najma held leaders Malkiya to a 2-2 draw, East Riffa defeated Al Hala 1-0 and Bahrain Club outplayed Al Ahli 2-1 in the 17th week of the Bahrain VIVA Football First Division League last night.
In the most important match of the night, played at Al Ahli Club Stadium, Malkiya wasted a great chance to get closer to their first ever league title when they drew with Al Najma.
However, Malkiya remain on top of the table with 33 points from 17 matches, four points ahead of second-placed Muharraq. Malkiya have one more match against Riffa in the last week of league while Muharraq have two games to play – against Al Hidd and East Riffa.
The match between Malkiya and Al Najma saw all four goals being scored in the first half.
Al Najma scored the opener in the sixth minute through Ali Khalil, before Malkiya hit back twice through Ali Sayed Isa and Hashim Sayed Adnan in the 16th and 29th minutes.
Al Najma equalised in the 40th minute through Evans.
Meanwhile, Al Hala were relegated to the second division league after losing to East Riffa 1-0 at Bahrain National Stadium.
East Riffa are now safe with 19 points and in the sixth place, while Al Hala remain with 13 points, in the 10th position.
The only goal of the match came through a penalty kick, scored by Brazilian defender Jao Ramirez in the 58th minute.
In the third match, played at Khalifa Sports City Stadium, Bahrain defeated Al Ahli 2-1.
Bahrain Club led the first half 1-0 with Nozim scoring the goal. They made it 2-0 in the 68th minute through Mohammed Khalid. Al Ahli scored an injury-time goal through Redha Marhoon.
Bahrain Club are now in the eighth place with 16 points while Al Ahli are seventh with 19 points.
