An expatriate man living in Qatar was diagnosed with the Middle East respiratory syndrome-related coronavirus (MERS-CoV), according to QNA.
The Ministry of Public Health today confirmed one case of coronavirus.
"Results of lab tests showed that the 62-year-old resident suffers from the virus," the ministry said in a statement.
The patient was then placed in isolation for necessary medical treatment. The statement also noted that the person in question did not interact with anyone else with similar symptoms. He went to a hospital with symptoms of fever and abdominal pain.
People who interacted with the patient but did not have any symptoms are currently undergoing the necessary medical examination, the statement added. They will be monitored for the next two weeks to ensure that no symptoms develop.
This is the first confirmed case in 2017. There were a total of 19 confirmed MERS-CoV cases in Qatar, which led to seven deaths.
