MUHARRAQ and Malkiya last night emerged as joint leaders in the Bahrain Viva Football First Division League following victories lover Manama and Bahrain Club respectively in the 11th week action.
In the match played at Bahrain National Stadium, Muharraq defeated Manama 1-0 to steal the lead from Manama.
The winning goal came in the 41st minute when Muharraq’s Hisham Mansoor’s long shot powered its way into the right top corner of Manama goalkeeper Ashraf Waheed.
The arch rivals meet again in the final of the King’s Cup on Thursday.
Muharraq moved to 21 points from six victories, three draws and two defeats, while Manama went down to third with 20 points.
Thriller
Muharraq were soon joined by Malkiya, who defeated Bahrain Club 3-2 in a thriller at Khalifa Sports City Stadium in Isa Town, at the top of the table.
But Malkiya lead Muharraq as they have defeated the latter in two legs.
Bahrain Club led twice in the game before Malkiya hit back with late goals to steal an important victory.
Bahrain Club scored first in the 56th minute through Christian. Malkiya equalised in the 61st minute through Isa Abdulwahab.
Bahrain regained the lead two minutes later through Nader Fathi.
Malkiya were awarded a penalty in the 81st minute and Isa Al Barri scored from the spot to make it 2-2.
However, Malkiya completed a good night when Sayed Hashim Isa found the target in injury time to seal victory.
In the last match at Bahrain National Stadium, Al Hidd defeated Al Ahli 3-1, thanks to a fine hat-trick by Nigerian striker Daeo.
Al Hidd went up to fourth place with 16 points while Al Ahli remain with 14 points and in fifth place.
Al Hidd finished the first-half 1-0 while Al Ahli equalised in the second-half through Syrian Mahmood Daas in the 48th minute.
Al Hidd were back ahead in the 55th minute with Daeo on target again.
Daeo completed his hat-trick in the 71st minute.
