Kuwait: Six Kuwaiti people from the same family were killed and several others wounded in a yacht fire off the southern resort of Khairan yesterday.
They were on a sea trip when their yacht collided with a cruiser causing a deadly explosion that left a man, three women and two girls dead.
Two men, a woman and a girl who were on the 48-metre-long-yacht also sustained various wounds due the blast and blaze.
Coastguard and civil defence units who were dispatched to the scene of the incident managed to control the fire, the department of firefighting said in a statement, adding that investigations are underway to determine the cause of the deadly blaze.
Eleven ambulances and two medevac choppers which were dispatched to the scene rushed the wounded people to Al-Edan and Mubarak Al-Kabeer hospital for further treatment.
The deceased were identified as the father and owner of the yacht, Abdulla Nayef Saud Al-Ouwaihan , his wife Huda Abdulrahman Ouwaihan, daughter Jameela Abdulla Nayef Al-Ouwaihan and her two daughters, Mona and Heba.
Twenty-six-year-old Noora Hamad Abdulla Al-Qaud, wife of yacht owner's son Saud Al-Ouwaihan, was also among the dead.
A report in Alrai Arabic newspaper said that four of them died of asphyxiation after inhaling thick smoke while the two others, including a woman, burned to death.
