BADMINTON – BAHRAIN’S team of Special Olympics athletes bagged another silver medal to bring their total haul to four, including one gold, at the end of the Special Olympics MENA’s Sub-Regional Gulf Badminton Competition in Abu Dhabi.
The squad’s fourth podium appearance saw Mahmood Ghuloom and Hussain Saeed finish as runners-up in the tournament’s men’s doubles category. Ghuloom added his doubles silver to his gold medal in the men’s singles competition.
The Bahrainis’ two other medals were won by Zainab Saleh and Jawaher Talal in women’s singles. They also narrowly missed out on a women’s doubles podium, placing fourth in that competition.
Bahrain were one of six delegations competing in the event, which was held for the first time. The others were Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, and hosts UAE.
The competition took place in partnership with Special Olympics MENA, Abu Dhabi Sports Council, UAE Badminton Federation, Badminton World Federation, and Khalifa University of Science and Technology. It aimed to unite athletes and partners across the Gulf, encouraging camaraderie and sportsmanship.
