FOOTBALL – BAHRAINI international referees Ammar Mahfoudh, Mohammed Khalid and Hussain Al Shuwaikh have succeeded in obtaining an international licence to use video assistant referee (VAR) technology, the Bahrain Football Association (BFA) announced yesterday.
This came following their participation in a series of workshops organised by the Oman Football Association for VAR.
BFA secretary general Rashid Al Zoubi confirmed that the referees obtaining their VAR licence comes as a reflection of the commitment of the BFA board, headed by Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa and his deputy Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali bin Isa Al Khalifa, to activating VAR technology in the kingdom’s stadiums in the near future.
Al Zoubi stressed the BFA is keen to continue developing the arbitration aspect of football in Bahrain by keeping pace with various global developments and working on programmes aimed at improving the level of refereeing in the kingdom.
