Bahrain were yesterday drawn in a challenging group for the preliminary round of the 18th Asian Men’s Juniors Championship.
The Asian Handball Federation (AHF) event is scheduled to be held in Amman from July 16 to 26, featuring 13 of the continent’s leading under-20 national teams.
The draw took place yesterday at the Jordanian Handball Federation headquarters.
The kingdom’s squad are in Group A along with Saudi Arabia and Hong Kong. Group B features Kuwait, Iran and China, while Group C consists of hosts Jordan, India and Oman. Group D is composed of four teams, namely South Korea, Chinese Taipei, Qatar and defending champions Japan.
The tournament schedule has yet to be released by the AHF.
Bahrain were the silver-medallists from the previous edition of the competition, hosted by the kingdom in 2022.
The nationals lost to their Japanese counterparts in a tense final, while Kuwait claimed the bronze medals after defeating Saudi Arabia in the game for third place.
It was the Bahrainis’ second silver medal in the history of the tournament, with their first won in 1994. Bahrain had also captured gold in 1998 and bronze in 2018.
