HORSERACING – Al Afoo Racing’s Sovereign Spirit clinched the Bahrain Gold Cup, sponsored by stc, after winning the eighth race of yesterday’s event at the Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) in Sakhir.
The winners, trained by Jaber Ramadhan and ridden by Soufiane Saadi, finished the 2,000 metres race for imported horses ahead of second-placed Panning For Gold, owned by Al Mohamediya Racing. Chronograph, of Al Adiyat Racing, was third.
Elwasme, of Al Mohamediya Racing, won the seventh race, for imported horses, over 1,800m, to claim the stc Bahrain Cup. Be Lucky My Son, of Bin Isaan Racing, was second while Battyeford Boy, owned by Abdulla AlGaoud, finished third.
The sixth race of the day, for stc Bahrain Cup, was won by Social Distancing, of Adiyat Racing, while Swift Asset, owned by Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, claimed the stc Bahrain Spring Cup after winning the fifth race.
Torpedo, owned by Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa won the fourth race to clinch the stc Pay Cup and Celtic Champion, of Al Mohamediya Racing, emerged winner in the third race for the stc Bahrain Cup.
Mughayer, owned by Mohammed Yousif Sarhan, won the second race for the stc Jusoor Cup while Al Hamdany 1810, of Victorious, claimed victory in the opening race of the day and lifted the stc WAHO Cup.
The races were held in the presence of Supreme Council for Environment vice president and REHC deputy chairman Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa. The races were also attended by dignitaries, sponsors’ representatives and equestrian sport enthusiasts.
