Muscat: Rawan bint Najeeb Tawfiqi, Minister of Youth Affairs, attended the opening of the first edition of Oman Innovation Festival under the slogan "Knowledge, Partnership, and Sustainability."
The festival will run for five days and is organised by the Omani Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation (MoHESRI), under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs of Oman.
The minister affirmed the significance of the festival in encouraging GCC youth to work in the research and innovation fields and highlighting the outstanding youth models in the GCC states.
Tawfiqi praised the efforts of Professor Dr. Rahma Bint Ibrahim Al Mahrouqi, Minister of MoHESRI, in launching many initiatives and programmes that empowered researchers and innovators and provided them with a supportive environment.
Many institutions participated in the festival and provided services to innovators and students of higher education in Oman, in addition to an exhibition that displayed innovative applications created by young people.
Oman Innovation Festival also embraced a wide range of different training workshops that combine knowledge, experimentation and innovation targeted at all age groups in order to spread a culture of scientific research and innovation.
